Alcorn Celebrates Homecoming 2016

It’s HOMECOMING! Yes it’s that time once again when old friends and acquaintances gather on ‘The Yard’ and reminisce about the good time. Alcorn’s Homecoming theme this year is “Greatest Of All Time.”

Festivities kicked off on Sunday, October 9th in the Oakland Memorial Chapel with the Joyful Noise Gospel Explosion from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Attendees later made their way to the Amenities Parking Lot for the Late Night Snack Attack from 7:00 pm to 11 pm.

On Monday, October 10th, the Greatest Show on Earth Carnival was in full effect from 7:00 pm to 10 pm on the campus green. Students involved in the Student Government Association (SGA) were formally sworn into office at the Student Government Association President and Cabinet Inauguration in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom on Tuesday, Oct. 11th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Following the Inauguration, students headed to the James L. Bolden Campus Union Multi-Purpose Room for a night of poetry, spoken word and soulful singers at the Love Jones Café event.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12th, students were asked to put on their most comfy pajamas for a night of fun at the House Party Pajama Jammy Jam in the E. E. Simmons Gymnasium from 7:00 pm  to 11 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 13th at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm the Coronation for Lady Whitney Jackson, the 90th Miss Alcorn State University was held. Faculty, staff, and students will come together to cheer on the Braves’ football team at the “Bring It On” Pep Rally on Friday, Oct. 14th on the campus green from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Later, Greek organizations will step it out at the NPHC Stomp the Yard Step Show in the E. E. Simmons Gymnasium from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

The annual Homecoming Parade around the campus loop will be held Saturday, Oct. 15th beginning at 9:00 am. To conclude Homecoming, the Braves’ football team will battle it out on the gridiron against Texas Southern University at Spinks-Casem Stadium at 2:00 pm.
