Alcorn State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) along with the Senior and Sophomore Class officers hosted Sophomore and Senior Week beginning Monday, February 5, 2018 until Friday, February 9, 2018. The purpose of the week is to unite students in the Sophomore and Senior class with interesting events to entertain them.

The week kicked off with Game Night in Complex A’s Multipurpose Room on February 5, 2018 from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. There were about 40 students in attendance. During Game Night, students were entertained by Spades, Xbox and Playstation games,  and Uno. Students were also able to eat snacks and drinks while listening to music and engaging in conversation.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, students were able to attend Convos, Cookies and Crafts at 6:00 pm in the Student Union. During this event, students were able to paint, sip and converse with Miss Sophomore, Dominique Varnado and Miss Senior, Shamesha Martin. Refreshments such as sandwhiches, chips and cookies along with punch were served. Varnado stated, “Arts and crafts can be used as a calming stress reliever. Seeing as though we are all college students and sometimes have a lot on our plates, I thought doing something like this could help sooth those little every day stresses. So, with this event, I not only wanted to bring about unity but to help ease, if just for a moment, the little hassles we handle day to day.”

On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, students gathered to enjoy festivities in a basketball tournament at the Old Gym. The tournament kicked off at 6:30 pm where teams of 8 gathered to compete against other teams of 8. The players were entertained by DJ Stigga Savage. There was also a game bus ( Game On) located outside of the gym to accommodate students who were interested in playing Xbox, Play Station, Wii and other video games.

On Thursday, February 8, 2018 about 58 students attended “Shoot Ya Shot” hosted in the Campus Union beginning at 7:00 pm. During this event, students were able to mingle with an anonymous boy/girl and see if they had possible likenesses, pet peeves, etc. to begin a friendship. Males were given sample questions but they could also compose personal questions to ask. They were given 2 minutes to chat with the person in front of them.

The week concluded with the screenplay showing of FRIDAY starring Ice Cube on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Math and Science Building in Room 109. Sophomore and Senior Class Week was a huge success due to many students coming out to enjoy the festivities and each other’s company.
