High School and Community College Transfer Day took place on September 21st at Alcorn State University (ASU) at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. The doors opened at 10:00 am and the event concluded at 2:00 pm. This day was devoted to inform high school students, transfer students and parents about everything that Alcorn has to offer.

After entering the premises, visitors were welcomed with warm smiles and bright faces from Alcorn’s faculty, staff, Student Ambassadors, and current students. High school students and possible transfer students walked around freely while exploring the booths and departments that are offered at Alcorn such as Mass Communications, Industrial Technology, Chemistry and Physics,  Education, Business, Nursing, Fine Arts and many more. Graduating Seniors in high school had the opportunity to apply for admission to proceed with the enrollment process.

There were numerous schools from various parts of Mississippi who attended the event such as Kemper County High School from De Kalb, Mississippi, Moss Point High School from Moss Point, Mississippi, Harrison Central High School from Gulfport, Mississippi, Shaw High School from Shaw, Mississippi, Gautier High School from Gautier, Mississippi, Hattiesburg High School from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and many more.

As the program began, Miss Alcorn State University 2019-2020, Jakhia Gray and Student Government Association (SGA) President James Stirgus greeted the visitors and presented the remaining SGA members. Next, Tracy Cook, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Dr. Felicia M. Nave, President of Alcorn, gave everyone a heartfelt welcome.

ASU’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) made a presentation which paid homage to those men and women who protect and serve our nation. Next the audience was entertained by various performances by The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band, The T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad,  the ASU Cheerleaders and Dancers of Africa.

Jameisha Williams, a Senior at Shaw High School in Shaw, Mississippi, stated,  “I enjoyed High School Day. I can see myself going here. I love how family-oriented this campus is. I enjoyed the performances and my favorite part was the band.”
