Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. Today, it is believed that one must attend college before becoming successful which is a misconception. I believe one does not need college to be successful because there are lots of well-paying jobs that do not require a college degree.
Growing up, children are told that without a college degree they will not be successful or will not have much earning potential. Some students are not even interested in going to college because they know that with their talents and skills they can be successful. Examples of high paying jobs that do not require a college degree are makeup artists, professional athletes, financial service sales agents, and even computer programmers. Successful people like Michael Dell, Mark Zuckerberg, and Larry Ellison do not have college degrees and yet that didn’t stop them from becoming successful. Being successful really depends on what you want to do with your life and not necessarily going to college.
Another reason to consider is that college does not prepare you for the real world. According to www.startupcamp.com , self-application will always beat education. Most of the things taught in college will not be useful to one’s career later. We can’t deny that we need education to become successful, but it doesn’t have to be from college. You can learn entrepreneurial skills and business management without having to attend college. Having a college degree doesn’t necessarily make you prepared for your career. Employers don’t only hire based on a degree but also skill and talent. Many students waste quality time and resources to go to college only to graduate and be useless. I think people should reexamine their views on college because it has been so overrated.
Attending college is expensive and one isn’t guaranteed a well-paying job. Students look for different ways to make sure that college fees are paid like getting loans and working part-time. Some students graduate with huge amounts of debt due to college expenses. The height of it all is that they might not even get a well-paying job. Contrary to people’s thinking, one does not automatically get a job with a huge salary, because most times you have to work your way to the top which can take years. But notwithstanding, not attending college will not stop you from achieving your dreams or getting that huge salary.
Choosing to go to college is a personal decision. Nobody should be forced to go to college because college does not define success. People need to realize that there are other legal ways to become successful without going to college.
