The Junior Class Cabinet hosted “Who Want The Smoke: Pediatric Cancer Color Run” on September 26th, at 6:00 pm on the Alcorn State University (ASU) Campus Green.

This was the first color run on the campus of ASU. During the event, students were given a brief description on the purpose of the gathering including the importance of being aware of Pediatric cancer. After the discussion, students threw colors into the sky and began laps around the Campus Green. To ensure that participating students were well hydrated and motivated, there was a hydration station and cheer stations placed along the Green. To help support the cause, participants were asked to donate $1 but it was not required.

Taea Jackson, a Junior Chemistry major and the 2019-2020 Junior Class President explained, “It was important to me to host a Pediatric Cancer Color Run because in college it’s easy to take our life and health for granted. By hosting a Color Run, it allows the students on campus to have fun as well as take the time to honor the children who may not have the same opportunities as us.”

The Junior Class is excited to continue engaging the Alcorn student body in events throughout the school year. Kaziah Robinson, a Biology Pre-Medicine major and the 2019-2020 Miss Junior explained, “We plan to do at least one event a month whether it be fun, educational or a small gesture. In October, we will focus on domestic violence and breast cancer awareness. However, we also plan to do engaging events such as a Halloween pajama movie night and a community service event for the month of November.”
