The first glimpse of Marvel Comics antihero Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but here the character is given a different background story. The story line is of revenge, as Deadpool searches for the man that ruined his life. Thus far, Deadpool has grossed over $734 million and Marvel Comics is in the process of casting for the sequel.

The movie begins in an action scene with Deadpool and the guards of his arch nemesis, Ajax (Ed Skrein). Before the scene is acted out, Deadpool takes the time to explain how he got to this point. His explanation begins two years prior with the man who is under the mask, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). Wade is a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary for hire who eventually falls in love with another mercenary named Copycat (Morena Baccarin). But, before their happily ever after begins, Wade is diagnosed with cancer. Against his better judgment, he accepts an offer of treatment from a mysterious stranger named The Recruiter (Jed Rees) who informs him that once cured his life will be changed forever.

Once entering treatment, Wade is tortured for weeks by Ajax, a survivor of the treatment himself, and his incredibly strong female associate Angel Dust (Gina Carano). After an experiment done by Ajax triggers the superhuman DNA in Wade, Wade develops an escape plan. Feeling as though he can’t return to his family because the experiment hideously altered his physical appearance, Wade creates Deadpool to seek revenge on Ajax.

Constantly throughout the film Deadpool breaks the fourth wall to speak to the audience, fully aware that he is a character in his own movie. Deadpool brings a fresh take on superhero movies that have begun to become redundant. Extremely violent and satirical Deadpool is not a movie to watch with little children. The movie is awesomely gruesome and one of the bloodiest films of the year. Deadpool receives 7 stars out of 10 stars.
