Panthers Roast Braves for Victory

The Alcorn State Braves (5-3, 4-2,) played on a rain soaked field at Spinks-Casem Stadium against the Prairie View A&M Panthers (7-2, 6-1) with very disappointing results.

The Panthers began the first quarter like a raging juggernaut with a score at the 14:00 mark when Courtney Brown scored on a 20 yard run into the end zone but with an Owen Hoolihan missed PAT (point after attempt) the score was 6-0, Panthers. With only 3 minutes and 55 seconds elapsing from the clock Prairie View scored again when Fred Anderson scored on a 40 yard punt return but with Hoolihan missing yet another PAT the score was now 12-0, Panthers. Later at the 4:42 mark Nick Brewer scampered in for yet another score on a 30 yard punt return and with a successful PAT by Hollihan the score was now 19-0, Panthers. The Braves finally decided to get on the scoreboard at the 3:26 mark when Lenorris Footman  scored on a 36 yard run and with a Haiden McCraney extra point the score was now 19-7, Panthers.

In the second quarter the Braves began to show some signs of life. At the 13:41 mark Lenorris Footman scored on a 52 yard run and with a McCraney PAT being good the score was now 19-14, Panthers. But Prairie View would not be denied because at the 9:40 mark Fred Anderson scampered into the end zone on a 7 yard run and with a successful Hoolihan PAT the score was now 26-14, Panthers. The Panthers scored yet again at the 8:17 mark when Johnta Hebert scored on a 61 yard run and with a good PAT by Hoolihan the score was now 33-14, Prairie View. Nearing the end of the second quarter at the 1:52 mark the Panthers scored again when DeAuntre Smiley scored on a 3 yard run and with a successful PAT by Hoolihan the score at halftime was 40-14, all Panthers.

The Braves came out in the third quarter ready to make this a competitive game because at the 7:23 mark Arron Baker scored on a 14 yard pass from Lenorris Footman and with a good McCraney PAT the score was now  40-20, Panthers. The Braves were not done with their scoring attack because at the 2:20 mark Arron Baker scored on a 76 yard run and with a successful PAT by McCraney the score was now 40-27, Prairie View.

The Braves went into the fourth quarter determined to win the contest when at the 10:47 mark Tollette George scored on a 15 yard pass from Lenorris Footman and with a good McCraney PAT the score was now 40-34, Panthers and that is how it would end.

Alcorn’s next game will be on November 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Houston, Texas against the Texas Southern Tigers (3-5, 2-5) at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
