Sigma Chi Iota presents its 2018 Membership Drive

On Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 the Sigma Chi Iota (SCI) Academic Honor Society at Alcorn State University hosted an informational at 6:00 pm in the Ray Johnson Auditorium. In attendance were the two founders Dr. Joey Mitchell, who is the Primary Adviser of the Academic Honor Society and the Director of Career Services and Co-Advisor, Carey Butler, who the Guided Transitional Counselor of Student Support Services.

Members of the Executive Board of SCI led the informational first stating their history, mission and colors. They began naming their founders and their founding date of August 12th, 2015. The Honor Society’s shield and colors were displayed on the member’s royal blue and silver shirts. The attending board members consisted of Zoria Nicholson as President, Pamela Cannon as the Head of the Planning Committee, Ashley Craig as Parliamentarian and Na’Keia Stewart as Head of Media Relations.

As the first professionally driven, career services Honor Society here on campus, the society is committed to its student’s success. Nicholson expanded on the importance of involvement and dedication regarding the Honor Society, by stating that, “this Honor Society is career development driven and in order to take advantage of the many job opportunities and internships, members have to be willing to put in the work.”

According to Cannon, to be eligible to join the organization, “students must have at least a 3.33 GPA and 30 credit hours.” The majority of the eligible students received notifications by email of the process of gaining membership. New members will be inducted on the Thursday during SCI WEEK, which is scheduled for February 19th – 23rd. For more information, students can email Dr. Joey Mitchell at Jmitchell@alcorn.edu.
