E-Sports is a form of sports competition using video games. It often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or  teams. On Tuesday, September 1st, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced the launching of E-Sports Gaming presented by @USARECRUTING. Cyrus K. Russ, Assistant Vice President for Athletic Compliance, stated, “We (Alcorn) formed an E-Sports advisory committee which is charged with developing an E-Sports program that offers our students the opportunity to pursue their passion for gaming while learning the E-Sports industry.” Alcorn has set up a Twitter account @BNeSports1871 where interested parties can visit to stay informed about the sport.

The first SWAC E-Sports Gaming competition took place on Saturday, September 12th at 6:00 pm featuring a Madden 21 Tournament. The first SWAC E-Sports Gaming NBA 2K21 Tournament will be on Saturday, September 19th at 6:00 pm. Students interested  in participating should  go to @SWACEsports on Twitter, click on their University’s logo and log in or create an account to participate.
