PAINFULLY SHY

Dear Tangi:

I am a Freshmen here at Alcorn State University with a grade point average of 3.2. I have an outgoing personality when and if the situation dictates it. I’m a handsome guy (at least that’s what I’ve been told) but I get very shy around  women I’m interested in. I begin to stutter and mispronounce words that it becomes embarrassing. Currently in my English 111 class there is this young lady who I think is the perfect mate for me. She’s intelligent, beautiful and goal oriented. The only thing is I won’t approach her because I’m scared I’ll become nervous and screw things up. Is there any advice that you could give me on how to approach this young lady who could potentially be my future wife?  I’d hate to see her slip through my fingers.

Signed

Dear All Ears:

Your situation is very cute. There is nothing wrong with being shy or nervous in certain situations. When approaching a female, it can be quite embarrassing if you’re nervous. What I would suggest is that you catch her when she’s by herself. Maybe while she is sitting by herself alone studying. You should try asking if she needs any help. When you start conversing, all the tension will die down. Once the tension has subsided, try holding a casual conversation. Ask her about her major and plans after college. Later ask her on a date and treat her to a nice restaurant or an arcade and dinner date. All and all, you should go for it, the only thing you can do is try. You’re a handsome guy (according to your letter) and you seem sweet so you shouldn’t have a problem. Good Luck!
