This week in entertainment news, J. Cole to is set to perform for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention Fundraiser, Kanye West announces he is releasing a new album, and T.I. inks a deal with Roc Nation and announces part-ownership deal with Tidal.
First up, rapper J. Cole is set to perform for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) Fundraiser. Ibrahim Hamad, the President of Dreamvillle Records, shared the announcement flyer via his Instagram account with the caption, “When the President asks…” The fundraiser will take place on March 11th on day one of South by Southwest (SXSW) at the Austin Music Hall and will be hosted by Will.i.am and Will “Whurley” Hurley. President Obama is not shy about voicing his musical preferences so it doesn’t come as a surprise that he extended this offer to the Fayetteville native. Ticket prices for the event are as follows: $250.00 for General Ticket Guest per person, $500.00 for Preferred Section Guest per person, $10,000.00 for the Photo Line per couple, and $33,400.00 to Co-Host per couple.
Next up, rapper Kanye West announces he is releasing a new album. After his latest Twitter rant about the Grammy Award show Kanye revealed that he would in fact be releasing another album this summer offering no further information about it. However, in the rant he did speak on how important the Grammys are and how they are out of touch both culturally and musically. The rapper recently released his seventh studio album entitled “The Life of Pablo” that was released exclusively on Tidal. “TLOP” was illegally downloaded over 500,000 times in its first day and did not appear on the Billboard charts because Tidal did not report its streams to Nielsen Music.
In our final story, rapper T.I. inks a deal with Roc Nation and announces a part-ownership deal with Tidal. The announcement of the distribution deal and the part-ownership was made during his Atlanta Tidal X concert. This will make T.I. number nineteen on the list of owners of Jay-Z’s Tidal. Tidal is a relatively new musical platform that is owned by the artists such as Jay Z, Beyoncé, J. Cole, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Lil Wayne and offers high fidelity sounds and high definition music videos. All of the Atlanta rapper’s upcoming releases will be released exclusively on Tidal before anything else. T.I.’s upcoming 10th album “The Dime Trap” is slated to be released exclusively on Tidal.
