Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, the creators of Girlfriends and Being Mary Jane, introduce Black Lightning on The CW. The show is about a high school principal named Jefferson Pierce who makes his return after a nine year hiatus as an African American superhero named Black Lightning with the power to control and harness lightning. He attempts to contain his secret identity as he has to fight to keep his hometown streets safe. The show takes place in Freeland which is an African American community that has many of the challenges that we face in the world today such as drugs and gangs. With the help of his wife Lynn Pierce (Christine Adams; Agents of Shield) and his 2 daughters, Anissa  (Nafessa Williams; Brotherly Love) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain; Daddy’s Little Girls), he is able to return to his days of crime fighting with help.

Season 2 returned on October 9th on The CW at 8:00 pm central/9:00 pm eastern.

S2:E1: As the Pierce family tries to recover after last season’s battle with Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III; Harry’s Law) on the campus of Garfield High School, the city of Freeland is faced with more challenges and is depending on the family for help. During the episode, the Garfield School Board considers a motion to shut down the school out of concern for the student’s safety, Jennifer struggles with her newly found powers, Anissa uses her powers to help the community while Jefferson struggles with the decision to continue being principal of Garfield High.

 Season 1 is available on Netflix and can be streamed on the CW Seed app.
